This Army was holding the line at there assigned post near Dutch Gap doing Picket duty. They were engaged in several picket skirmishes during this time.  Then on the night of the 17th of Nov the emeny made an attack to break up the Union Line. But they were repulsed, the Two Hundredth taking an active part and sharing in the triumph. On the 28th the Regiment was transferred to the Army of the Potomac,
Commanded by General John Frederic Hartranft a highly distinguished Pennsylvania Soldier.

Latter at Fort Stedman the Two Hundredth along with the Two Hundredth and Ninth moved forward under constant fire and recaptured the Fort for the Union.  There was a letter from General Hartranft in 1889 that spoke of the Gallant Services of the Two Hundredth Regiment.  It was recognizing the Two Hundredth on the morning of march 25, 1865 that lead to the capture of
Fort Steadman.
